Photoshop paintings, Storybook gifs and stainglass warriors.

Having an incredibly long holiday is so uninspiring.

It almost feels as if what I've been doing for the past month has been wasting time.

But maybe I've just lost touch with what it is i used to do.
I think its time for some back to basic project-making-go-nuts-period that I tell others to do whenever they're down or uninspired.

So expect a lot of paint….
A lot!

For now though, I've done all sorts of pencil drawings for my E-book development and photoshop colour work because i forgot how to photoshop last month-

\\\ See last blog post, below this one ///

A succulent looking apple painted using new brushes in photoshop.

Fairly rough but quick painting of a tower. The clouds particularly remind me of a turner painting
Shiny bubbles i made following a tutorial on Pinterest/Deviant art.

I wanted to remind myself how overlapping blues would cool the underside of the gem shape.
A painting i produced late last night. the colours are beautiful. Now i just got to work on the compositions and producing solid shapes.

About a month ago, i said i was producing an E-book for uni. I have some characters set-up but now i just need a story. We have a bored king who craves adventure, a cunning apple headed chap who craves sweets, and a air commander girl who says some funny mature lines that she herself doesn't understand. Theres also a Lilith cameo, just to see how to style would affect her.

Geometric designs, My first thoughts were going to be focused just on lilith's story in a geometric stain-glass style 3D wonderland.  I've had some trouble with being inspired by it.

Astro-naught swordsman, cookery knight, and victorian gentlemen. Just some combination imagery drawing.

This Week; I forgot how to Photoshop.

Okay…. let me elaborate.
 For the past few weeks I've been researching into the methods of in-app development, which links in to the research project I'm undertaking for my University.

Potentially, my end result is making a successful prototype E-Book in which i report my findings. So Ive been all over the internet trying to find the best software to use, all the while finding software that uses;
- the least amount of coding,
- is free and…
 - gives me open possibilities/fun when it comes to making my Book.

Turns out the best solution is Xcode, and even then that involves knowing your way around c++ scripts and coding to make even the easiest apps.

So my brain completely forgot how to photoshop. anything.

So whenever i forget, I start from the basics and before I knew it, I'm riding bicycles.
{I think that allegory's right}

So I've made two {3} images from sketchbooks drawings or spur of the moment randomness.
/. ENJOY.\

Hip Hop Pop, REDUX!!!
The intention was to see how the black outlines change the visual style of the piece.
It gives it a sense of weight and existence.
This was taken from a line doodle in one of my sketchbooks

Reminds me of the new smash brothers game coming to 3DS.
Hot Coffee Guy. Could Be A New Coffee Logo? Shirtless COFFEE! For the morning person
In comparison to the black outline {REDUX} version, Hip Hop Pop!!! definitely has a lighter feeling when its missing that weight.

Lilith and the E-book of Short space of Time.

UPDATE COMING SOON.

I'm currently undertaking a research project where i have to produce my own e-book to understand the creative process behind the production of making one. I think this is the perfect time to try making a story with the character I've been drawing for almost a year now.

-What I've been focusing on recently is the style. Should i go for realsitic serious, or cartooned storytelling?
- Should i produce a simple style, in turn a simple book for a lower age group, or can i make something deeply badass that serious?
Like bastion, or zelda?

This is what happens when you don't have any references. Big chins and similar faces.

The Stone was held by an evil looking eye. OHHH!!!!

Conscience appears.

The story of conscience has been half made up in my mind but i don't want to give anything away, Just a powerful spiritual entity that gives Lilith power, nothing special.

This is a disney looking style. But I cannot recreate it again.

I was thinking a stain glass window effect with this page. Its definitely worth looking into.

On the far left is drawing i made that reflected the very first drawings i produced for Lilith.
Then i remembered why i made the character. It was for an animation i did almost a year ago.

And its online on VIMEO;
https://vimeo.com/66417898

Sort of a samurai, raincoat, knight trying to battle her way through the deep abyss that his her own subconscious.
Im thinking about capturing some emotions. This is sad. Ill do angry sometime.

Completely different. Hip Hop Pop Bubblegum.

version 2.Im imagining block colours and green highlights

/// I modelled a butt. {Sculptris, one day}. \\\

So I've been messing around with sculpting software Sculptris, during my spare time between research. For a single session of messing around, I've go ten use to its easy interface.

This short session has also showed me how much of anatomy I can recall from visual memory. It helped me to understand which areas I need studying in, in order to achieve a more accurate representation of the human anatomy.

Probably the closest thing to lilith becoming 3D at the moment. But I'm very pleased with how easy it is to sculpt figures from a single sphere.

I was actually hoping to stylise the look of the coat more but i thought id try realistic approaches before learning about exaggeration. Last time i exaggerated before learning proper anatomy, I was stuck in the manga style phase for two years.

Must be Michelangelo inspired, when you have man pecks on a female model.

I have no idea how eyes work in sculpting.

Oblivion Face.

Strange enough, i did model an accurate representation of a butt. What does that say about me?

My attempt at moiling hair. The problem was having it in mirror mode.
My skills aren't exactly Davinci, but considering i made these without any references at all, I'm pretty pleased with myself.
I call it, the powdered ponytail. (Because it  reminds me of a powdered wig.)

An Interactive Digital Stories Project (And adorable french Books, OH LA LA!!)

I just this week arrived back in England after participating in the Digital Stories project, in Lille France.
I met students from across europe, who were also invited to partake, to use Laser pointed technologies and iPad systems, to see how we could create an interactive experience with 50 people playing at the same time. I had one week to produce a working product, while working in a team of three.

Website to the project;

 Facebook page,

Heres also a film of all the final outcomes for the week.  I produced the animated imagery for Project Silver Lining.

\\\Overview///
'silver lining' is a filmed interactive video, that the player could drawwith. The concept was to replicate  ink brush movements using the Lasers, which the player then draws and interacts with a series of filmed animated sequences to continue the imagery and enjoy the poem on a new level.

It was incredibly insightful to see how the gaming industries operates to produce anything interactive. And although one of the most tiring experiences of my life, it's something i would do all over again if i was asked.

Im also producing research for the university towards the development of E-books, but that still hasn't officially started yet, so not much information on that topic.

Other than that I've been watching Knights of Sidonia on Netflix. ITS SOOO GOOOOOOD!!!!

Some stylised changes to Lilith that Im thinking about photoshopping then animating in after effects.
-Im trying to go for a clean cut style, thats painted but very attractive when set in motion.
I acquired this Book from France. Im addicted to its lovely painted art style. The brush marks and the strong use of red relates to how i produced poppyseed almost four weeks ago.
The story itself has a very thought out narrative, that describes a lot with the few pages it has.

My new workspace I use in Cambridge. Until I start my final year at uni, it is used as a central hub for all my collected imagery.

Morning paint session.

 /// One hour quick paint session \\\

I used life drawing references i did the day before to help me paint this. Although i invented the light sources and shadows, I have to say, It really helps.

Observe from life, if you want to add life and realism to your drawings. Even if you're drawing cartoons. It helps.
